Once there was a king who used to live in a giant palace. In the same palace, lived a lizard and a cockroach, hiding safely from the eyes of the king. Very interestingly, they both used to lodging a good meal every day, unaware of anyone in the palace. Suddenly, one day the king saw them behind the door in his bedroom.
The king shouted loudly- “Servants, I have just seen a lizard and a cockroach in my room. Detect them both and kill them instantly.”
After listening to the king’s spies, there occurred the turmoil in the whole palace. All began to find a cockroach and a lizard.
Lizard and cockroach were extremely scared. They started seeking opportunities to escape from the castle. They looked around to run out of the palace but all the doors of the palace were closed. They then decided to hide in the dark cells of the palace. They stayed there all through the night and planned to leave this palace as soon as possible, otherwise, they were sure that king will kill them. Due to being very dark inside the cell, nobody was able to catch sight of them at night.
Soon the moon slept and the sun arrived. It was morning now.
Lizard said to the cockroach – “Let’s get out, the main entrance of the palace is open now.”
“Why should we go out? See, no one was able to expose us whole through the night? And apart from this, where will we get such yummy food easily outside the palace?”- Cockroach responded with a greedy heart.
The lizard said, “Cockroach, we made a lot of fun here. Now if we will stay in this palace more, we will be killed for sure. Now the time has come to work hard and earn our own food.”
“Absolutely not, I don’t want to work hard to earn my food. If they can not find me whole through the night, then they will be unable to catch me up even further.” Cockroach spoke with arrogance.
“Well, it’s your wish. I am going.” Lizard stated and got out of the palace.
After the lizard went, the same morning, the king asked the servants- “Did you find a cockroach and a lizard?”
The servant said- “No, Mighty King, they are very small and it is terribly difficult to detect them in such a huge palace.”
King gave a solution- “ Put the poisonous medicine in delicious food with the good aroma and place that food in every corner of the palace. I believe both of them will come to eat and they will die of poison. The servants did the same.
Unaware of this, the cockroach smelled the aroma of delicious food and started eating it. In a while, cockroach started shouting. All the servants ran following the harsh sad voice and saw the cockroach was fluttering his wings in pain and was saying – “I wish, I would have gone out of the palace with lizard and if I would not have greed for yummy food, I might not have faced this situation today.
Moral – 1) Greed is a great curse.
2) Every time God will not give you chance to save yourself. Help yourself.
3) Do not be afraid of hard work.
